Taylor Swift isn't even old enough to have a legal drink and yet already this gorgeous entertainer has achieved enviable success that most work a lifetime for. Often associated with other mega teen acts such as the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift possesses poise, grace, and professionalism not often seen in such fame or at such a young age.
She writes her own songs, plays her own guitar, sings her own lyrics, and has already established herself as a reputable actress. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery and Taylor Swift has had the praise of hearing her song "You Belong to Me" covered by Butch Walker, Pink, Katy Perry, an onslaught of YouTube fans devoted to her music and more.
The youthful innocence combined with the ancient wisdom of simple human emotion makes her music relatable to nearly everybody. Who hasn't regretted a break up, pined for a crush, taken a risk, and fallen on their face? All of these simple experiences that shape who we are as human beings Taylor Swift captures flawlessly in the simplicity and honesty of her music.
With her first single released at the age of sixteen, Tim McGraw, the song was about her high school boyfriend moving away to college and the impending and inevitable break up that would follow. Country music fans swallowed their first taste of her impeccable ability to describe a feeling, a moment, and an emotion; and convey it so clearly in a song. Soon to follow was Taylor Swifts debut album, out of which came five hit singles that climbed on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. Eventually her first album was certified three-times Multi-Platinum. Taylor Swift's second album, Fearless, led her to become the highest-selling artist of 2008; culminating in $4 million in combined record sales for the year.
2009 however, was an even bigger year for Taylor Swift. Ranked the 69th most powerful celebrity by Forbes, Taylor Swift launched her first solo tour as well as made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live, making her the youngest country singer ever to appear on the show. 2009 has not slowed for Taylor Swift.
After winning Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year at the Country Music Awards, she went on to win the same at the MTV Video Music Awards. Perhaps, and sadly, the most memorable Taylor Swift moment of 2009 was during the her acceptance speech, when Kanye West grabbed the mic shouted to the entire televised audience that Beyonce should have won. All of that has only served to help her in her career as she handled the moment well. Beyonce went so far as to call her onto the stage during her own acceptance speech for winning Video of the Year. There was retribution in the end when, after talking about it on The View, West called her and apologized personally for this moment
